Cryptography legislation efforts have moved ahead, in the U.S. and worldwide. Bills currently in the U.S. House and Senate are on conflicting tracks. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that speech on the Internet is strongly protected, and some courts have held that cryptography is speech. The White House is releasing its framework for the Internet, with special provisions for cryptography. Major legislation has been put into effect in Germany and other countries. Our featured participants will discuss these and other timely issues.
