independent telecommunications and mass media research institute, housed
at the Columbia Institute for
Tele-Information at
Columbia Business School, Columbia
University, New York, NY, USA. Consisting of a global community of academics, independent foundations,
business leaders, consumer advocates, and individual researchers, the
V.I.I. is the global center for discussion and debate of telecommunications
and mass media issues. The Virtual Institute of Information's mission is to research and exhibit telecommunications and mass media information while fostering the continued understanding of these fields and their implications for the future economic and social development of society. Designed as a research tool accessible through the World Wide Web,
the V.I.I. is open to anyone interested in information on the economic,
business, policy, and social aspects of telecommunications and mass
media. The V.I.I.'s open architecture allows users to contribute on an ongoing basis to the growth and development of the Institute. Users submit content to the site including: papers, articles, biographies, events, announcements, job postings, and links to additional information. As a result, the V.I.I. houses papers and information from some of the best minds in the world.
